Riding the Wrong Train
Sometimes we get on the wrong train. We can go for miles before we notice we are on different path. Then we realize we’re not going to the place we expected. We feel lost, we are aimlessly going the wrong direction. At some point in our lives. We can end up in a place we never expected. It’s what we do about it that makes a difference.
Life is much like riding a train. We have a destination in mind and a plan to get there. But sometimes, somehow we get on the wrong path. Maybe we just are not paying attention. Are in a hurry. Or we got distracted by something less important. Or Shit Happens. It’s okay to be on the wrong path. It’s more important to recognize we are not going the direction we wanted to go. So we have three choices. Stay on the train and ride it out to see where it takes us. Get off the train and reassess. Or take the train back to where we left from and start over.
Some recognize this as a grave error. Feeling they are on the wrong path they get off at the next station confused and bewildered, unable to act. I know many people who look at this simple mistake as an opportunity and ride the train till they get someplace new. Where they feel comfortable and seek new paths. They look at taking the wrong train as an opportunity to explore.
I’m the go back and start over kind of guy. I’ve been that way all my life. But many times I feel like I’d like to ride that train and see where it takes me. I would love to feel comfortable and in my heart believe it’s an exciting opportunity. But something stops me every time. Maybe it’s the fear of the unknown. Maybe I’m just afraid to explore my options. Every time I look at a mistake I want to turn back and stick with the original plan.
What kind of person are you?
Maybe next time I’ll just ride on that train
